Sage Error 504 can be caused by incorrect firewall settings. If you have not added any outbound or inbound rules/exceptions, your firewall will deny you access to the website you are attempting to reach.
Here is a step by step procedure to add exceptions in the Firewall settings. You can do this by creating fresh inbound and outbound Rules-
- Click on the Start button.
- On the Search bar, click Windows Firewall
- Click on Advanced Settings
- Right click on Inbound Rules
- Now, click New Rule
- Go to the Programs section
- Click Next to continue
- Now click on This Program Path
- Specify a file location for Sage
- Click Next
- Click on the Allow the Connection tab
- Click Next
- Check all the options being displayed on your screen
- Click Next to continue
- Give a suitable name to the new rule just created
- Click Finish
Once you have created the inbound rule, execute the same steps above to add an outbound rule as well. Simply go to the Advanced Settings section and select the Outbound Rules option this time. Then perform the remaining steps to create an outbound rule similarly.

The Sage 504 error is frequently caused by an incorrect proxy setting. Navigate to Windows Settings to check your proxy settings. Then, on the left, click on the Proxy tab.
